Global environmental problems call for sustainable buildings. The Miyagi Prefecture is rich in forest, especially cedar trees (Cryptomeria japonica). As there are wooden buildings, already exceeding 10 stories in Europe and North America, it is our aim to make timber constructions possible on a large scale. Therefore, we are developing new building structures to realize middle and high rise buildings using large section laminated wood such as CLT (Cross laminated timber).
We are doing working in cooperation with administration, forestry, timber related groups, architects, design offices etc. Our collaborative research institutes are: Miyagi Forestry Association Federation, Miyagi Prefecture Forestry Promotion Division, Construction Industry Association, Building Association, JIA, Association of Architects Design Association, JSCA
